Name: Bulbus Fritillariae Thunbergii
Resource: The bulb or scale leaf of Fritillaria thunbergii Miq.family Liliaceae.
Characteristic: Bulb:Oblate,1.0-2.5 cm in diameter,1.0-1.5 cm high.Surface nearly white,two symphyllous thick scale leaves on the outer verticil,containing several fine scale leaves and remnant stems.Section appearing white and farinaceous.Scale leaf:Shoe-shaped,1.5-3.0 cm thick,white and farinaceous.Both are bitter in taste,cold in nature,and attributive to lung and heart channels.
Pharmacodynamics: 1.Clear away lung heat,eliminate phlegm and relieve cough:For affection of wind-heat or phlegm-heat manifested as cough with thick and yellowish expectoration. 2.Clear away heat,disperse lumps and relieve carbuncle:For skin infection,lung abscess,subcutaneous nodule,scrofula and goiter,used together with Concha Ostreae,Radix Scrophulariae(Pill for Scrofula).
Pharmacological: Intraperitioneal administration of its active components,peimine or peiminine,exerts a significant antitussive effect in mice.
Usage: Decoction:3-9g.Powder:1.0-1.5g bid or tid.
Caution:
Incompatible with Radix Aconiti.
