Concern over those lines and wrinkles which come with the passage of time is not restricted to the gentler sex. If you’re a guy who isn’t happy with what your mirror is telling you about, there are plenty of steps you can take to reverse your signs of aging.

1. Exercise

Regular exercise is one of your best weapons in the fight against aging, because exercise is a natural stress reliever, and will keep your weight in check and your cardiovascular system in great shape.

An added bonus you’ll experience with exercise is that it causes your brain to release endorphins, which are mood elevators. When you get a high from exercising, you’ll be less likely to make unhealthy choices like eating poorly, drinking alcohol, or smoking.

There are also some health gurus who claim that exercise will boost your immune system function so that you are less susceptible to developing serious diseases like cancer.

2. Diet

Of course you knew that was coming, but it only makes sense that your rate of aging will be dramatically affected by what you eat. As time passes, your body loses its ability to handle stress in the way that it once did, and stress is a major producer of free radical damage, which is in turn a major producer of the signs of aging.

You need a diet which supplies plenty of antioxidant rich fresh fruits and vegetables, and limited amounts of nutritionally worthless processed foods. You need a diet which will diminish your chances developing those love handles so common in men past forty, and one which can even take on thinning hair and failing energy.

A diet which is full of metabolism-boosting foods will not only restore your energy and help you keep trim; it will keep your hair, nails, and skin at their best. It will lengthen your life, and ensure that those extra years are high quality ones.

So what, besides antioxidant loaded fruits and veggies, will you be eating on your anti aging diet?

Good fats which will lower your cholesterol. These include fish, nut, and olive oils.

Low glycemic foods. These are foods which take a while to digest, so that they release energy over an extended period instead of sending your blood sugar skyrocketing and then plummeting like high glycemic foods can. In addition to fruits and veggies, low glycemic foods include lean proteins, whole grains, and beans.

You should also eat fish a minimum of two to four times a week, and cold water fish like salmon, mackerel, tuna, or sardines are best because of their high Omega-3 fatty acids content.

As to the fruits and veggies, five servings a day are good. Nine servings are even better.

3. Protecting Your Skin

While diet and exercise will help rejuvenate your skin as well as your entire body, you can keep your skin looking even younger by following a few simple skin care practices.

Begin by using the best shaving cream you can afford. If your skin is oily, make a point of cleansing your face twice a day; if it is normal, once a day will do, but don’t think that being a guy exempts you from regular face-washing. Regular cleansing is one of the best ways to rid your face of pore clogging impurities and to keep your skin elastic.

Don’t be afraid to use a wrinkle cream, because the best wrinkle creams have ingredients which will firm your skin and reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles regardless of your gender. Those same wrinkle creams are also great sources of antioxidants, which will fend off free radical damage just like the antioxidants in your diet will.

Exercise, diet, and skin care. It’s really not so hard, is it? Just a few changes in these areas will have you staying fit, trim, and youthful for far longer than you ever thought possible!
