Name: Herba Sambuci Chinensis
Resource: The root or the whole plant of Sambucus chinensis Lindl,family Caprifoliaceae.
Characteristic: A herb or shrub.Stem pith white.Leaves odd,pinnately compound,opposite,with 3-5-9 leaflets,lanceolate.Large compound corymb terminal;fiower small and white,some of them becoming yellow calyciform glands.Drupe globular and red.Bitter and acrid in taste,slightly cold in nature,and attributive to urinary bladder and liver channels.
Pharmacodynamics: 1.Promote diuresis and relieve edema:For edema,beriberi,especially for cirrhotic ascites and nephritic edema;also for infectious hepatitis. 2.Promote blood circulation and remove stasis:For sprain,contusion,fracture,postoperative pain(oral or external use);also for lo chiorrhea. 3.Clear away heat and toxic material:For sorethroat,skin infection,dysentery,cough and dyspnea due to lung-heat.
Pharmacological: 1.Accelerating the healing of experimental rfacture rabbits. 2.Its active component,ursolic acid,is a sedative,analgesic and antipyretic. 3.Another component,caffeic acid,is a chologogue. 4.Inhibiting the growth of Shigella flexneri and α,β streptococcus in vitro.
Usage: Decoction:15-30g.Instant granules:l pack tid.External use:Appropriate amount.
