1)Meditation usually refers to a state in which the body is consciously relaxed and the mind is allowed to become calm and focused. Several major religions include ritual meditation;however, meditation itself need not be a religious or spiritual activity. Most of the more popular systems of meditation are of Eastern origin, though there exists also various forms of Christian, Jewish and Muslim meditation.

2)A self-directed method for relaxing the body and calming the mind. The practitioner makes a concentrated effort to focus on a single thought to still the inclination of the mind to mull over the many demands and details of daily life.

3)A variety of techniques for some individuals that may or may not incorporate spirituality which can calm and soothe as well as provide insight.
