Name: Os Sepiellae seu sepia
Resource: The cuttlebone of Sepiella maindroni de Rochebrune or Sepiaesculenta Hoyle,family Sepiidae.
Characteristic: The sample appearing flat-long elliptical,thicker at the middle,thinner at the margin,9-23cm long,3-6 cm broad at the middle.Surface whitish,slightly red at two sides,with numerous small tubercles on the dorsal side and fine,dense,wavy and transverse lines on the ventral side extending from the tail to the middle or over;no spicula at the tail.Fracture surface white,farinaceous and striated.Loose and soft in texture.Prepared as powder.Salty in taste,slightly warm in nature,and attributive to liver and stomach channels.
Pharmacodynamics: 1.Astringe and stop bleeding:For hematemesis,also for hemoptysis,hematuria,metrorrhagia and menorrhagia.External use for traumatic bleeding. 2.Relieve emission and leucorrhagia:For nocturnal emission and leucorrhagia attributive to asthenia-syndrome. 3.Antacid and analgesic:For peptic ulcer,stomachache with acid regurgitation. 4.Relieve goiter. 5.Reduce exudation and promote sore healing:For skin pyogenic infection,unhealed lesion and eczema.
Pharmacological: As an antacid,hemostatic and astringent.
Usage: Decoction:6-12g.Powder:2-3g once or twice daily,as antacid and analgesic.
