Name: Semen Persicar
Resource: The seed of Prunus persica(L.)Batsch and P.davidiana Franch.,family Rosaceae.
Characteristic: Seed flat-ovate or nearly elliptical,1.2-2.0 cm long;apex acute,base obliquely round,perine thin.Spermoderm yellow-brown,with a round chalaza at the base,and a linear hilum at the top,numerous vascular bundles running longitudinally from the chalaza,and slightly branching reticularly.Bitter and sweet in taste,mild in nature,and attributive to lung,liver and large intestine channels.
Pharmacodynamics:
1.Promote blood circulation,remove blood stasis and relieve carbuncle:For blood-stasis syndrome with amenia,dysmenorrhea and abdominal mass.Recently,used for hysteromyoma,used together with Ramulus Cinnamomi,Poria,Cortex Moutan Radicis,Radix Paeoniae Rubra(Bolus of Ramulus Cinnamomi and Poria).Also for trauma,especially the injury of the chest,abdomen and spine;for acute appendicitis,used together with Radix et Rhizoma Rhei,Cortex Moutan Radicis,etc.;for pulmonary abscess,used together with Rhizoma Phragmitis,Semen Coicis,etc.,Recently,injections are used for central retinitis,pigmentary degerneration of retina,postocular optic neuritis,optic atrophy,etc.
2.Relieve cough and asthma.
3.Promote blood circulation and moisturize dryness:For blood stasis and blook dryness with pruritic eruptions. 4.Moisturize the intestine and relax the bowels:For constipation due to dryness of the intestine.
Pharmacological: Similar to that of Semen Armeniacae Amarum(See p.249).
Usage: Decoction:6-12g(crushed before decocting).The spermoderm should be retained for asthma.
Caution:
100% solution,2 ml IM daily for diseases of fundus aculi;1 ml postocular injection every other day,10 times as 1 course.
